Why no ale recepies? was created by lukeinoz
I am thinking of chucking on a Coopers Real Ale kit this weekend, i have never tried one before.
Is it worth using two cans?

If so how much of everything else should i use?

I wouldn't use two cans of Real Ale, that would be pretty bitter. It really depends how bitter you like your beer. 1 Real Ale can will give you around 30 IBU by itself. If you really want a real ale 2 can, I'd mix it with a pale ale can but that's still going to be fairly bitter. What type of beer do you want to make??

I am trying to slowly work my way through the coopers kits.
The Pale Ale I did a while back is crap, if i could make an Ale which tastes like the coopers commercial Mild Ale but which was stronger i would be a happy man.

Any suggestions?

Yes the Pale Ale kit by itself is crap, but it is a great can to start with when you want to muck around and experiment because it is fairly neutral. I have never had the mild ale. I'd do the Real Ale kit with at least 500g of malt and 700g of dextrose, and if it was me I'd add at least 15g of your favourite hop in a 10min boil of maybe 2L of water with 200g of the Light Dried Malt. But it will still turn out fine with out the hop addition.

Of course a steep of some crystal grain (100-300g) would also add a little tastiness but not essential either!

I just tried the Coopers Mild Ale. Its fairly close to their Pale Ale. I'd give it a go with a tin of Pale Ale and 1kg of light dry malt. Depends how strong you want it though. And I'd steep some medium Crystal Malt 200g and add that too.

Or BigW wise Coopers Pale can + BE2 + 500g Light Dried Malt.

Coopers have just released a recipe pack for their Mild Ale

Our commercial Mild Ale has become very popular with the Australian drinking public. A mid-strength beer with real flavour, perfect for summer drinking! Don’t skip on the hops and it’s important to ferment at 18°C using the commercial yeast culture.

Ingredients
• 1.7kg can Australian Pale Ale
• 500g Coopers Light Dry Malt
• 12g Saaz hops (steeped for 15-20mins)
• Coopers Commercial Yeast culture (preferred), English Ale yeast or kit yeast

And that's it. So I guessed right!! You said you wanted it stronger that's why I said to chuck in a BE2 as well, but looking at this recipe maybe if you added the BE1 it will get you closer to the style. Myself I'd still use BE2. Or forget the BEs altogether and just add 500g of Dextrose.

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
