Well I've been thinking about this for a while. I would like to run a homebrew challange for those of us in Australia. It would involve posting the beers to one or two locations and i would need someone over east tho help me out with that, it would also cost $10-$20 for us to ship other peoples beers to you. The recipe is an IPA where the hops and yeast are already decided and you chose the malt profile. Each person involved would judge the other peoples beers and the win would get a 6 pack of coopers vintage ale or what ever premium beer I have in stock at the time. If you would be interested let me know

The proposed recipe

IPA Malt Chalange
American IPA

Hey mate,

I love the idea of a IPA challenge, but i dont think i would Join one like this, I'd be more interested in Outlining Say Certain Malts, Certain Hops, Yeast, OG range, EBC range and IBU Min/Max

i think you would end up with a more diverse Range of IPA's to test rather than a lot of IPAs that would near be the same 62IBU's is pretty much going to drown any differences in Malt profiles unless you get some that are 30EBC against 20EBC IYKWIM

Just my thoughts

My idea was to have a strong defined hop bitterness and flavour to see how different maltsic recipe changed the flavour and over all bitterness perception of the beer if you would like to change the recipe or guidelines let me know what your basic recipe and guidelines would be.I'm happy to change. I would like to see this happen so I'm willing to take advice.

MrRahneM: Do you have this advrtised elsewhere? are there other parties already interested? Maybe we could get a group of people interested in doing the Brewing comp and Maybe get some input into what others would be interested in.

The thing iv always thought about brewing comps,

a. Costs money (Approx $30-60 to brew depending on Ingredients and Size)
b. Takes time, Brewing takes time and to brew for a Comp is probably more time consuming
c. Logistics of Moving bottles around the country

I think that if we can get some input in and organise it so that all parties involved are happy with the arrangements would prove for a good Competition / Bottle Swap

Cam: I think depending on how many we get and where people are Reps from States/Areas could handle the bulks and people who are outback or isolated can possibly send theirs to the closest big group.

Would be fun to have an anonymous style Ballot vote where we can taste all the beers and vote.

This is the only place I advertised. I am up for ideas on how to run it. For distribution the idea was we break the country up you send some of you brew to the head of area and then they send it out from there. I know I can't run this on my own and I was looking for interest depending on how many people are willing to help depends on how many people can help. I live in Western Australia so I can mange this area. Yes it will take time to brew for a comp like this but a due in date would be a while away. The cost to enter would be that of what it cost to send your share of the bottles.

For what it is worth to you Aussies, we do this at least once a year here in the States with HokieHomebrew and SJPorr. I've done it once, and while it is expensive, you learn A LOT. It's a really fun experiment, and I hope you guys make some videos for us yanks to watch.

Cheers,
Dan

Ok so what we need to decide is a recipe a variant, how many drop points a whos going to take the time to be a drop point. I am of course willing to be one for here in the west. I don't think we should go more than 20 people or postage could get blown out.

So lets get a vote of cellardweller members that are interest.
Pleas put number, name, state, and style of beer you would like.

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
