Anyone that has watched my JTV casts lately would of seen me raving on how good my latest IPA is, so I thought I better share the recipe. I found an Alesmith IPA recipe which used the same hops I happened to have in the freezer. I wanted to use a can of Coopers Real Ale as the base as I had that in the cupboard too, the original recipe used no pre-hopped cans of extract, so with a little fiddling around in Beersmith 2 I came up with this recipe.

Gashsmith IPA
1.7kg Coopers Real Ale
1kg Light Dry Malt Extract
400g Dextrose
150g Medium Crystal Malt
50g Chocolate Malt
9g Columbus(Tomahawk) 15mins
7g Simcoe 15mins
14g Amarillo 5mins
14g Simcoe 5mins
14g Columbus 1min

Steep the Chocolate and Crystal Malt in 2L of water @70c for 30mins
Strain into your boil pot and rinse grains with 1.5L of water @70c
Stir in 300g of the Light Dry Malt and bring to the boil
Add the 15min Hop additions and boil for 10mins
Add the 5min Hop additions and boil for 4mins
Add the 1min Hop addition and boil for 1min
Turn off the heat
Stir in the rest of the Light Dry Malt, Dextrose and Coopers real Ale can of goo.
Pour wort into fermenter and top with cold water
Add yeast , I used safale US05, when wort temperature is around 20c
I fermented for 10 days then bottled.

Cheerz!! :woohoo:

If you happen to have a boil pot that can comfortably boil 10 litres, and you have a method of chilling, after you have rinsed the grain you could top up to 10L and add the whole kg of Light Dry Malt at the start of the boil and continue as per recipe.

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
