Gunk in Cubes was created by Deejay
Hi brewers,do any of you that cube get a gel like gunk settle at the bottom of the cube?I have filtered the beer into the cube and it still get it every time.It is not solid and doesn't seem to affect the finished product as I have tried filtering it when going into the fermenter but it still gets through.I am wondering if it is the yeast nutrients that I add in the last 10 minutes as when I finish the boil it is all through the wort like curdled milk?
cheers.

So do you pour the wort into the cube hot and tip it all in ? If so i think that its cold break settling down and forming at the bottom as the wort cools. Pays to leave it behind when you bottle or keg. Very normal ,it normally gets left behind when cooling in the kettle. Cheers, hopefully im on the right track, but think thats the case. cheers mate

I wouldnt worry about it, some say its good for the yeast. I sometimes leave it behind if I'm doing a very delicate pilsner or something like a helles, but to be honest it probably wouldnt make a difference. Cheers!

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
