Secondary fermentation issues was created by davidevans
Lately I've experienced a couple of issues with secondary (bottle) fermentation.

I bulk prime all my beers at bottling at the rate of 8g sugar/ ltr of beer . Depending on volume, this will alter a bit so I take care to calculate & measure correctly.

Recently I've had a beer (Squires Amber Ale knock off which I've made several times) turn out really gassy and bubbling like Vesuvuis when opened.

Next one (Coopers Mild Ale) has barely enough gas although primed using same method.

Finally, I opened my last effort, a Coopers Dark Ale on the weekend and from a gas/head perspective, it's perfect.

Have been bulk priming for years with great success so no intention of going back to using teaspoons or sugar drops in each bottle.

Any thoughts? All help appreciated.

G'day, over carbed could be a few things, the beer wasn't fermented out fully or maybe a slight infection? Barely enough carb is odd, unless it's just not finished carbing which could be weather related if its been cool, or something went wrong with the mixing of the sugars into the wort. Really hard to say, I think you'll get a better idea if you get through the whole batch of each beer and the problem is consistent till the very end.

Further to my last post, my latest brew, a Coopers Pale Ale is also showing signs of under carbonation.
Bottled on 29/5 & bulk primed as usual with sugar at 8g/L, I opened one recently (about 3 weeks later) and its gassy but only just.
Since bottling its been inside the house but the weather has been cold. Is this just a time thing i.e. slower secondary fermentation at this time of year?
If not, I've considered opening a couple and adding say 30% of the original qty of sugar, recapping and seeing what happens. What do you reckon?

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
