Never get close to predicted OG was created by ryanog
Hey guys! I recently got a robobrew and have done about 6 all grain brews.

They all turned out OK, tasted decent.

HOWEVER

I'm following the beersmith recipes to a T. I have Gash's Robobrew profile and mash profile.
My last 2 brews I have fallen short on the OG by about 15.

It's doing my head in.

I even followed the recipe from beerco (the NEIPA) and beersmith calculated very similair water amounts.
Still instead of a 1050 pre boil gravity. I hit 1035.

Any ideas?

Gidday mate, are you saying your pre boil is 1035 or your OG is 1035. Are you able to paste your recipe and we can have a wee look. Cheers

Hey mate, 1035 was my pre boil.
But I since realized it was because I took a reading when the wort was too hot.

I cooled the wort and got 1043, then post boil I got 1052. Better!

However the recipe from Beerco said I should hit 1078...

I put the recipe into Beersmith and it estimated an OG of 1056-1070.

Thanks for that information. According to my calculations using BeerMate you OG is pretty much spot on. I came out at OG 1055.
1056 to 1070 by beersmith isn't helpful for you. So your brewing very well but may be you just need to get used to the software your using. Give this software a try, I use it all the time when building a new recipe and it works well and is very user friendly.

Let us know how you get on. Well done and cheers

Thanks mate, Makes me feel a bit better!!
Ill give this software a run.

I just looked at Beersmith again and the estimated OG is 1068. So I've missed the mark by a bit.

I'm unsure where Beerco got 1078 from ??

I think your profile must be messed up, for starters the eff% shouldnt be 78% should be lower than that, my guess is the profile is messed up.
Otherwise the usual, check the crush, stir a few times etc
You can also try the Brewfather profile I have.
Lots of things can happen in beersmith, its a great program but change one thing, just tick a box somewhere and it can change everything, even if you untick it sometimes. I good quick check for this is check the difference between your your estimated PreBoil and you estimated OG , if its over 6 points something is up.
Cheers!

So my eff is always 70% and that what I calculate my brews at and they are always the same. With the grain father what is the expected efficiency?
cheers Guys

Cheers mate, I got your Robobrew profiles from this site?
I didn't change the efficiency.... strange. I didn't change much actually in the profile.

You're right about beersmith, one wrong click and iI get some weird results.

Changed the Robo to 70% effeciency and the numbers reflect mine more

Brewing a familiar Dark Mild later today. (hint: Was the bastard tired? Or was he run over by a tire (tyre). No one really knows). One thing for sure. It will be a treat when done. Cheers!
